DJ name generator-The search for a name

When designing my drafts for the three parts of my music magazine I began to research names to use for my cover line and other article titles. I went onto a DJ generator on http://rumandmonkey.com/widgets/toys/namegen/3675/#.VIVszv1B2Ix however some of the names generated were either too inappropriate or just unhelpful. Another odd thing was that overall, most of the inappropriate names were of male DJs, I may have to consider looking for a female DJ because the names generated for female DJs weren't all too bad and quite appropriate. At the end of this research I don't think that I'll be using any of the suggested names that this website has given me as I feel it'd be a better use of my time to be slightly more imaginative and make-up my own names for my stories and interviews.

Picture Grid-The pictures I hope to use

These are all of the pictures that I took to be submitted into my magazine. Most of these pictures were taken in Hertfordshire and Barnet as they're the best places to exploit your friends when they're dressed for a photoshoot. The last picture on the far left was the only action shot that I managed to acquire; it was taken as a band performed at my school which was also a brilliant opportunity to exploit there being a famous band and they were more than happy for me to use them in my media coursework.

Working Title

Low and behold here I have created the first draft of my title and slogan thanks to dafont.com and Microsoft word. I came to this title through the feedback I received with my surveys as well as my own way of mixing around feedback. Now to take it to photoshop to add colour, texture etc.

The results are in!

This is question 2 of my survey. From these current results I've seen that both Remix and Our House are favourites as well as Hive, however I've chosen to agree with Our House and also incorporate Hive into a slogan because as a singular title it can be misinterpreted and with this I am technically agreeing with my feedback and also tweaking it to benefit audience and myself when designing.  The idea behind using 'OUR' in 'OUR HOUSE' I chose to represent what we have to offer but also to represent people as a whole or as a community of one people because we as people are all the same in most respects and we all have the capabilities to produce some amazing music. The 'HOUSE' in 'OUR HOUSE' not only represents the genre as a whole but also represents a sense of togetherness as if the world is one big place that creates a sense of being together as a family.

Possible Fonts

This table shows the different fonts to be used with one of my three (to be decided) magazine titles. I'm going to agree with the people I asked in a five minute time-period and use the font that got the most hits. Comments included ideas that some of the four fonts here were unreadable or just not right for a magazine title. The one i've chosen called "CLUBLAND" was said to look like the night life when in colour and remind them of inviting signs to clubs in places like Spain where most of the music to be included in my magazine will be/are played usually. This font research however is only a small insight into what my target audience enjoy, when it comes down to choosing my title, "CLUBLAND" may not be the most ideal as some letters look better in different fonts than others.
I've created a survey to get your views and ideas on how my music magazine will look and also give me a unique insight into what the people will want to see. This survey includes significant questions to me because they will cater to the creation of all parts of my: front cover, double-paged spread and contents page.

I've added this picture ensure you that this survey is genuine to my research.

This is a Canva that I've created to sum-up the textual analysis section of my research. This section has particularly engaged my thoughts onto the connotations of a properly published piece of media. Without this I would come to some trouble when choosing the layout of my final product. With this new knowledge I hope to achieve a professionally made piece of media that has had the close considerations needed to ensure that it looks better than I can make it.

This Prezi about my double paged spread shows the connotations of a double-paged spread within a magazine. When creating a double-paged spread for my magazine, this Prezi will remind me of the particular features I should include and why I should include them.

This Prezi about my double paged spread shows the connotations of a double-paged spread within a magazine. When creating a double-paged spread for my magazine, this Prezi will remind me of the particular features I should include and why I should include them. Also it is clear to me that double-paged spreads have a lot of conventions. When two sides link in some way it's usually because the main story is linked to a picture with miniature stories around it. If a double-paged spreads singular pages don't link it's because each story is different and this is something to take into consideration whether I would prefer to mix one big story onto two pages or create two smaller ones that both have to be as interesting and intricate as each other.

This Prezi outlines the connotations  of a front cover for a music magazine, with this it will be easier for me to create my front cover because all areas that I must include are more convenient to see.

With this video that I've recorded, I've turned my double-paged spread into a weather forecast. In doing this I've made it easier to outline the connotations of a double-paged from a magazine that is similar to the one I've created.

End of Research now onto the planning

I have now finished my initial planning for the production of my music magazine. The next part of my research is into the magazine itself rather than background information which reinforces my initial knowledge but more intricate and precise detail that is essential to put into my music magazine that involve title ideas, colour schemes etc. The next part of my planning will be uploaded thoroughly throughout as i progress to my final product.

This iMovie of pictures of Deep House and International House is a primary introduction into my chosen genre. I've chosen a variety of pictures linked to my chosen genre to show what Deep House and International House is like to see, pictures include: Tomorrowland, Afrojack, posters and MK. This video will initially give me the types of artist I hope to copy into my contents page and double-paged spread in terms of the image I want to give across as well as the background stories and how intricate or maybe even vague they should be.

Genre Research

This Powtoon explains my chosen genre(s) for my music magazines initial production. With this I've gained a better insight into genre itself. When it comes to my final decision on genre I have sufficient background information on each preferred genre and this will make my decision easier.

This Wordle shows the competitors out there who also have magazines of a House genre. This is a crucial piece of research to have as it gives me the knowledge of who to research in more depth because if one magazine has a higher rated publicists than another; i'll want to research what they gain from being so high up but also if the lower rated publicists also do well.Wordle: Untitled

Summary

So far I have used the four key concepts of a Media Product-Representation, Genre, Audience and Institution and i now know how to use them effectively in analysing music magazines.

In this I have learnt the differences between Niche and Mass genre as well as the similarities and differences with different music magazines and with this I can develop my music magazine to its fullest potential.

This part of my blog will be the first thing that I look back on when creating my final product as it gives me the knowledge of genre and the extra's that I really need to look at before making any solid decisions because I wouldn't want to create any problems when it's finished.

I made this PowToon to show how different Niche music and Mass music genres differ and how many similarities they have between them. With this I wish to gain better knowledge in choosing my genre because it will be the basis for my magazine and i'll be doing intense research into ensuring it's the best one for me. Within this powtoon I've broken down the connotations of Mass and Niche music because actually Mass music could be said to be the birthplace of Niche music as Niche music can be considered as a sub-genre but this has also helped majorly in the long run up to my final product as it has given me the inspiration to look further into my genre.

Quiz time

http://quizlet.com/51736719/scatter

Try my quizlet scatter graph on Time.Inc Media, in this you'll have an insight into the music publication world and hopefully learn and thing or two about a certain magazine media group. In creating this Quizlet, I've gained a deeper insight into other producers of music magazines and can see what their inspiration was in creating their media products. This quizlet has boosted my overall knowledge on one magazine type which in hindsight tells me that when I create my music magazine that I will have to give it a specific background and specific image so that I have a firm basis to stick to when creating my final product.

Niche and Mass genre study

These Wordle's represent the many genre's that are out there in the media. When it comes to choosing a genre this will be a good place to refer to when I'm making my last decision as it shows all known niche and mass genre's. In making these Wordles I have a better insight into genres of music and actually prefer now Niche over Mass due to it's more interesting sub-genres. This will help when choosing my specific genre when creating my music magazine because there's better market for Mass music genres yet a possible market for niche genres, this will reinforce my research into my genre.

Q/MOJO analysis

I used Canva to make this small presentation to show my understanding of what my front cover will look like and this core understanding of different publishers shows what it takes for a magazine to be published in terms of design and genre. As an overlook it can be seen that Q and MOJO have a very high-in publicist behind them which can give them the boost to sell their magazine. In hindsight this will help me with my research as I look to be a possible online magazine which will allow my designs for my three set products to change as they can become more intricate but also a lot simpler.

Genre research

I used Canva to make this poster which I was using to research genre, a brief overview of what genre is and why it's good to research it. This will be helpful when choosing my genre because i'll have gained a better insight into what i'm looking for in terms of a 'genre'. Also in researching genre I came across how unlucky one can be if they don't have a genre set in stone before they start there production because without it your stories, colour schemes and overall agenda can go a little off course as you have no firm basis to work on.

Similarities and Differences

I chose to research these six music magazines to achieve a better insight into the main looks and general knowledge of producing a piece of media like these. In researching I found out mainly that these magazines are based in America where most media companies will have the offices to facilitate how they produce these magazines and also if the frequency of a magazine is rare: e.g. 6 issues per year, then an easily noticeable title and picture on the main front cover is definitely needed to ensure their target audience purchase it. This Piktochart however will help when looking at the differences and similarities within these six magazines because the similarities are the things to consider when applying this knowledge to the construction of my own magazine. The differences however will be the things to research because they could be good ideas to add into my own magazine that could possibly make it more unique than my competitors. The similarities and differences sections will help me the most in post-production as I can focus on the differences as an area to take a risk in and the similarities to adapt as my strengths.

Wordle for music magazines

I chose a variety of music magazines and put them into a Wordle bubble to show the work of music magazine publishers/companies around the world. Most of these magazines are sold in the UK but made all over which shows the diversity in both language and audience. This will help when finding a music magazine to follow and mask (but not copy) when i'm designing my own, but as a whole this Wordle will remind me of the diversity out there in the media and that when looking for an eventual genre that it may be easier to follow a more niche type of music than a more generic kind or it can show to me that the gaps in the market aren't right there yet and it'd be beneficial to follow the genre's, flour schemes and connotations of some of these well-known brands.

STUFF magazine-a media analysis of a media product

This Slideshow will hopefully give more information on the work of Haymarket. Specifically to Stuff magazine as well as portraying how I hope to use Haymarket media group's ideas and background to help with my magazine's publication and design. As a media group Haymarket publish thousands upon millions of magazines today and they will always look out for faults; I will be sure to look back to this powerpoint when I'm near completion with my end product and look out for possible faults and the little things that could be seen as threats to my magazine if it were to be published properly.

First Post: Industry Context

My first Video is to introduce you to the current research I've been doing for my music magazine. A small powerpoint will follow to sum up any extra information that may not of been clear. This video will help me in the long run to hear from myself, what I've found out about the connotations of a magazine in general in such early stages of research. This was also a great chance to look at how a magazine is formulated together as a finished product, which is beneficial to me when creating my end product because I can make connections between the two and look out for all the things that I've copied in terms of connotations so I know that my end product will be successful.
